According to Census 2011 the total population of the India is 1,21,01,93422 and population of Uttarakhand is 1, 01, 16752 Uttarakhand population is 0.84 percent of India population.  Uttarakhand cover 1.69 percent area of India.

National Food Security Bill: Issues and Concerns

National food security bill was one of the key promises made by congress party in 2009 general elections after Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGS). On 18th December, 2011 the Union Cabinet cleared the bill that aims to provide subsidised food grains to over 63.5% of country’s population. The bill aims to provide food at subsidised rates to at least 90% of the rural population and 50% of the urban population.

‘INDIA achieved a milestone’, few days back this was the headline of all newspapers which was regarding the polio eradication in the country. Of course it was not less than achieving a milestone that now India did not find single case of polio anywhere in the country during last one year. January 13, 2012 was a great day in the history of Indian Public Health when the country completed 12 months period without any case of epidemic polio, since last case of polio was a two year old girl in West Bengal reported on 13 January last year.  This achievement of eradicating polio from the country is something worth celebrating.
